InspirationPantone Colour of the Year 2019

Pantone Colour of the Year 2019

Each year the The Pantone Colour Institute nominates one colour that they believe will be consistently found across all areas of design in the year ahead and perhaps beyond. The design world waits in anticipation each year for Pantone’s Colour of the Year. Naturally, we at Tom Dempsey Flooring, are interested in how this will shape interior design, and flooring specifically. The colour that should not be missing in any home in 2019 is Living Coral. Experts agree that the Pantone colour of 2019 conveys vitality, hope and joy. With its animating and life-affirming coral hue and golden undertones it is sure to inject a sense of energy into your home while simultaneously maintaining a softer edge.

Flooring manufacturers are excited to show designers how this “animating and life-affirming shade of orange with a golden undertone” can be used both in and adjacent to their flooring. The first rule to implement this colour in any home is to combine it with neutral tones, especially in large rooms of the house. Why not try lighter toned laminates such as Esperanza Oak and Graceland Oak by Pergo. Or if you enjoy a richer and deeper look, Pergo’s Brownstone Oak will pick up the golden undertones of Living Coral beautifully. We can’t help but think about being underwater when we think of Living Coral – we would also pair this statement hue with a dark toned, waterproof LVT, like the Vineyard Oak Brown luxury vinyl tile from Quickstep.

With all trends, it can also be helpful to start small, introducing little elements of the colour into your home interior and then building upon it in layers. This can be done with accent pieces such as wall art, cushions, throws, lampshades and rugs. The elegant Prism Rug (PRS13) by Nourison features beautiful contrasting coral and rusty hues offset on a background of deep ocean blue – a fabulous combination which symbolises the solid connection between Living Coral and nature.

Described as “vibrant, yet mellow”, this tone will bring a warm and nourishing feel to your home. It’s a colour that appears throughout the natural world, so it will help to inject a soothing slice of nature into your interior, which in today’s day and age, is becoming increasingly taken over by technology and fluorescent screens. We have no doubt that we will be seeing this colour more and more over the coming months.
